Confused by program design and all this talk about periodization?

Designing a workout - and then sticking to it - can be one of the hardest parts of exercising. If you're going to exercise, you might as well do it right.

That's why I offer program design and consultation services. When it comes to program design and long-term planning (or periodization), I'm the man to ask. Give me a shout and let's see what we can do.

You have to train hard and eat right, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't play too. My interest is strength & conditioning. I want to develop strong, powerful, and fit athletes. I want you to train hard and reap the rewards of being fit and being able to enjoy yourself outside the gym. I want to bring my expertise and my viewpoint to you, whether your goal is to get bigger and stronger, to lose some fat and get leaner and fitter, or just to improve your quality of life with a consistent exercise program.

I offer options and opportunities for everyone. Personal training may be a luxury item, but it doesn't have to be priced like one. If you're not convenient to Auckland, that's not a problem -- I offer a distance consulting option.

My approach to fitness builds on three fundamentals: mobility, strength, and conditioning. I want to make sure you can move without pain, that you're strong enough, and that you've got the wind to stay active. Want to be a bodybuilder? We can do that. Want to lift heavy weights for powerlifting or strongman? We can do that. Do you just want to feel better and look better? We can do that too.

    One-on-one sessions for maximum results. You are 100% guaranteed that I will not ever put you on a treadmill for half the session while I stand next to you texting. Read more »

    Work in pairs or triples or quadruples. You and your friends get all the benefits of one-on-one sessions with the bonus of friendly competition and a lower rate. Read more »
  • E-Coaching, Consulting & Programming

    You get to pick my brain and I'll draw up a workout program and diet, personalized for your needs, then follow up with regular check-ins to make sure you stay on point. And you don't even have to live nearby.

The Man Behind Impulse Strength & Athletics

Impulse Strength & Athletics is owned and operated by Matthew Perryman, CSCS. He prefers to be called Matt and doesn't like speaking about himself in the third person.

I started Impulse as a way to bring solid strength & conditioning concepts and nutrition principles to the public. People deserve better than outdated mainstream ideas on exercise and diet.

I've been lifting weights for over ten years now, sometimes competitively, mostly for myself, and I've been coaching and consulting with strength athletes for most of that time.
